The Department of Adult Corrections (DAC) Program at FIRST at Blue Ridge is a structured, transitional housing initiative designed for at-risk individuals re-entering society after incarceration. This intensive 90-day program offers a comprehensive suite of support services tailored to help former inmates rebuild their lives, develop independence, and avoid recidivism.
Eligibility for the program requires participants to be on probation or parole, with their supervising officer deeming them at high risk for repeat offenses or substance use. By addressing these critical needs and providing targeted resources, the DAC Program empowers participants to transition smoothly and confidently back into their communities.
The DAC program begins by helping each participant obtain essential identification documents, such as social security cards and state identification, which are crucial for accessing employment, housing, and social services. For many individuals recently released from incarceration, these documents can be challenging to acquire, and the DAC team is committed to guiding clients through the process, ensuring they have the tools needed to succeed.
The DAC program participants receive individualized support to connect with local social services, including access to housing assistance, food programs, and other community resources. Our team assists clients with applications for Medicaid or Medicare, ensuring that participants have access to healthcare, which is critical for overall stability and well-being. By establishing connections with essential services early in their re-entry, clients are better positioned to maintain a healthy and sustainable lifestyle post-incarceration.
Recognizing that steady employment is key to reducing recidivism, DAC Case Management provides job placement assistance tailored to each client’s skills and career interests. Our vocational support includes resume preparation, job search guidance, and mock interview sessions to help clients develop a confident, professional approach to re-entering the workforce. Additionally, DAC Case Management collaborates with local employers who understand the unique needs of individuals in transition, helping clients secure stable positions where they can build positive work histories and develop marketable job skills.
The DAC program offers residents an opportunity to build life skills that are essential for successful reintegration. Participants learn basic financial management, communication skills, and conflict resolution, all of which are vital for navigating the challenges of daily life outside the correctional system. Through group counseling sessions and one-on-one case management, clients receive emotional and mental health support, empowering them to make positive decisions and rebuild relationships in the community.
By providing a structured environment and comprehensive support, the DAC program equips individuals with the resources, skills, and self-confidence needed to break the cycle of recidivism. Our goal is to help each client achieve independence and stability, transforming their lives and giving them the foundation to become productive, contributing members of society.
